Virat Kohli fans react after Chetan Sharma resigns as India's chairman of selectors

Chetan Sharma has resigned from his position as India's chairman of selectors after being exposed by an undercover TV sting operation. He was recently reappointed to the position in January. According to ANI, BCCI secretary Jay Shah accepted his resignation.

On February 14, a video showed Sharma discussing a number of national team-related topics, including reported conflict between Virat Kohli and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. The video was made public by an Indian TV news program and it appears that Sharma may not have been aware that he was being secretly recorded at the time.

"Yes, Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation," a senior BCCI source told PTI. "He resigned voluntarily and wasn't asked to resign."

Soon after the news went viral, netizens, especially Virat Kohli fans took to Twitter to express their joy and flooded social media with memes. 

Following India's loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal in Australia, the BCCI disbanded the entire selection panel in November and issued an open call for new candidates. Sharma was only rehired as top selector in January. Sharma continued to function in his role until the new panel was appointed, with him once again as chairman.

With his exit, it leaves India's selection panel comprising Salil Ankola, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath. BCCI will now have to appoint a new chairman.
