The IPL 2025 clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday had no shortage of fireworks—both with the bat and between players. What began as an intense contest quickly took a tense turn when LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi and SRH batter Abhishek Sharma got into a verbal spat following the latter’s dismissal.
The flashpoint came in the 8th over of the SRH innings. Abhishek, who was in sensational form, had just hammered 59 runs off only 20 deliveries, treating the crowd to a flurry of boundaries. However, his aggressive knock came to an abrupt end when he mistimed a lofted shot and was caught in the deep by Shardul Thakur.
As Abhishek walked off, Rathi celebrated with his now-signature "book-signing" gesture—a move that had previously drawn a fine from the BCCI for its provocative tone. Replays showed Rathi directing the gesture toward Abhishek, who didn’t take kindly to the display. The two exchanged words on the field, leading to a brief but visibly heated confrontation before teammates stepped in to defuse the situation.

This isn’t the first time Rathi’s celebrations have stirred controversy, and the incident has reignited discussions around player conduct and sportsmanship in the league. While neither player was officially penalized during the match, disciplinary action from the IPL governing body could follow upon review.
