Indian women's team received a standing ovation at the BCCI Naman Awards on Match 15, 2026, Delhi. Having won their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2025, the women's team were honored by a felicitation by BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla and Joint Secretary Prabhtej Bhatia, receiving a standing ovation. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. outplayed Australia in the semi-finals and qualified for the finals.
They defeated South Africa in the final match on November 2, scripting history. After struggling for several years, the women's team finally received the respect and honor they deserved. After winning the trophy, the players also called former cricketer Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goshwami to celebrate with the entire team.
With the T20 World Cup coming up, the women's team are preparing to lay their hands on that trophy as well. When Harmanpreet was asked about her retirement plans after the win, she mentioned that she's waiting for the T20 World Cup. Until then, she'll be captaining the team.
The Indian women's team travelled to Australia to play a multiformat series, where they played ODI, T20I, and a Test match. India played outstanding cricket in the T20I series and defeated Australia. However, they failed to win in the ODI and Test match. It was an embarrasing defeat for the Women in Blue. In Test cricket, they failed to score runs or take wickets.
The only positive from the series was their performance in the T20I matches. They preparation for the World Cup will start as they will play more short format matches in the upcoming season. Indian team has some talented players and need to play more cricket to be in good shape and match practice. BCCI is likely to arrange more tours for them. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet will continue to lead the team across formats.
