Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant turned on the style in stunning fashion during Match 70 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, delivering one of the most memorable performances of the season. In front of a packed Ekana Stadium, Pant roared back into form with a spectacular century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), lighting up the evening with both his bat and his trademark flair.
Coming into the match with just 151 runs in the season, Pant had endured a lean patch. However, the stage was set for redemption, and the southpaw seized the moment with an unbeaten century off just 54 deliveries, his fastest in the IPL and the quickest ever by an LSG batter. The innings, punctuated by 11 crisp boundaries and eight towering sixes, was a masterclass in power-hitting and timing.
Pant brought up his century in signature style, lofting a fuller delivery over the cover region for four. But it wasn’t just the shot that had the crowd on their feet, it was what followed. In a spontaneous and joyous act, Pant celebrated with a mid-pitch somersault, sending fans into a frenzy and drawing smiles from teammates and opponents alike.
Earlier in the evening, RCB captain Jitesh Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl. LSG had a shaky start, losing opener Matthew Breetzke early for 14 to a sharp delivery from Nuwan Thushara. But what followed was a game-defining partnership between Pant and Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. The duo stitched together a commanding 152-run stand for the second wicket, with Marsh contributing a fiery 67 off just 37 balls.
Thanks to the duo’s efforts, LSG posted an imposing total of 227/3 in their 20 overs, their highest of the season. The innings was not only a showcase of Pant’s brilliance but also a reminder of what LSG is capable of when their middle order fires.
Despite the powerful performance, the match carried different stakes for the two teams. RCB, currently third on the points table with 17 points, are eyeing a top-two finish in the playoffs and must chase down the daunting target of 228. LSG, meanwhile, have already been eliminated from playoff contention, sitting seventh with 14 points.
