On Sunday, at Optus Stadium, Perth, the Australian cricket team secured a convincing 7-wicket win over India in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the series, thanks largely to skipper Mitch Marsh’s formidable innings. Marsh, leading from the front, scored an unbeaten 46 runs to guide Australia to victory under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, a crucial factor in a rain-interrupted match. Arshdeep Singh, the Indian pacer, feels that the weather played a part in the result, and they gave their best.

Australia won the toss and decided to send India to bat first. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc struck early as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could not contribute that much with the bat.

Shubman Gill also departed quickly before the rain hit the ground, and the match was first reduced to 36 overs, and later it was reduced to a 26-over per innings match due to consistent rain.

38 from KL Rahul and 31 from Axar Patel helped India reach 131/9 in the first inning. Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh struck early to remove dangerous Travis Head. But Aussie captain Mitchell Marsh and wicket-keeper Josh Philippe added 55 runs for the third wicket to take Australia home.

Marsh remained unbeaten on 46 from 52 balls as Australia chased down the total with 7 wickets in hand. They are now leading the three-match series by 1-0.

“We gave our best:” Arshdeep Singh

During the post-match press conference, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh shared that the weather played its part in the result, and they gave their best.

“It is what it is. You cannot control the weather. You need to adapt as quickly as possible and try to give your best with the situation and conditions you have been given,” Arshdeep Singh said.

“There will be days you will not get the desired results. But, as long as you are giving your best, and back your process, nothing matters more. There is nothing as such as unfair in cricket,” he medium pacer added.
