It’s not every day that a cricketer gets a stadium stand named after them, but then again, Rohit Sharma isn’t just any ordinary name in the cricketing world. The Mumbai-born batter, who has lit up the Wankhede Stadium time and again with his breathtaking strokes, was recently honoured with a stand in his name at the iconic venue. And among the many tributes pouring in, one came with a special blend of respect, warmth, and humour from none other than Rajasthan Royals head coach and former India coach, Rahul Dravid.

In a video shared by Mumbai Indians, Dravid didn’t hold back his admiration for Rohit. “It’s truly well deserved — congratulations! I hope it was a great day with family and friends,” he said, clearly moved by the occasion. He even added a cheeky note, saying, “Looking forward to seeing a lot more sixes into the Rohit Sharma Stand in all the games that you play. And when I’m short on tickets in Mumbai — now that you have a stand — I know who to contact.”

The two recently shared one of the highest moments in Indian cricket when India won the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, their first T20 world title in 17 years. Dravid, in what was his final stint as India’s head coach, and Rohit, as captain, led the team to glory, making the victory even more meaningful.

Interestingly, just weeks after that iconic win, they found themselves on opposite sides during the IPL 2025 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians on May 1 in Jaipur. Rohit, leading MI, and Dravid, coaching RR, brought their international camaraderie into a competitive domestic battle at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

As for Rajasthan Royals, the 2025 IPL season hasn’t gone quite to plan. With just three wins and nine losses in their 12 matches, the team is currently out of the playoff race and sitting in ninth place on the table. But there's still pride to play for and perhaps some fun to be had.

RR will host Punjab Kings on May 18, hoping to repeat their dominant performance from April 5, when they defeated PBKS by 50 runs in Mullanpur. Their final game of the season will be against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 20.
