With KL Rahul having been officially removed from the Indian squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval, the BCCI selection committee said, they have named Ishan Kishan as his replacement on Monday.

Rahul, who was the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, suffered a right thigh injury.

While fans wished for Rahul's speedy recovery, they were however upset or even angry with the selection of Ishan Kishan wondering why did they not go for a seasoned player like Wriddhiman Saha or an in-form Sarfaraz Khan or even the domestic star Akshay Wadkar.

While playing in 14 ODIs and 27 T20Is so far, Kishan has yet to make his Test cricket debut for India. He has made 48 appearances in first-class cricket and scored 2985 runs at an average of 38.76, including six hundreds. However, he only managed to score 180 runs in two games during the most recent Ranji Trophy.

On the other hand, Sarfaraz scored 556 runs in six matches for Mumbai at 92.66 with three centuries and a fifty.

Saha, meanwhile, made an impact in the IPL, especially after his crazy knock of 81 runs in 43 balls for Gujarat Titans.

Talking about Akshay Wadkar, he has an average of 53 with eight centuries to his name in the domestic circuit.

Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ruturaj Gaikwad were the three athletes picked as back-ups for the WTC championship match.

The 2nd edition of the ICC World Test Championship, will be played from 7 to 11 June 2023 at the The Oval, London, England, between Australia and India.
