Wimbledon 2025: Two-time winner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and three-time winner Novak Djokovic will take Taylor Fritz and Jannik Siner respectively

Will Carlos Alcaraz get a third Wimbledon title

In the first semi-final in the men’s singles category, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is up against Tayalor Fritz, who’s not only never won a grand slam, but is at the semi-final stage for the first time ever. Last year, he’d lost to Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-final of Wimbledon. Alcaraz has won Wimbledon twice on a trot and is looking at making that three in a row and with Fritz, someone he’s beaten in both of their earlier encounters, the Spaniard fancies a chance in Sunday’s final. The Alcaraz vs Fritz semi-final is slated to begin at 6 pm (IST) on Centre Court.

The second semi-final has Novak Djokovic taking on World No.1 Jannik Sinner. Djokovic has 24 Grand Slams to his credit, 7 of which are Wimbledon titles; Sinner has 3, and none of them are at the grass court slam. Djokovic was the runner-up in both the editions that Alcaraz won, but can he get past Sinner to set up a third showdown with the defending champion? The World No.1 was almost ousted by Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16, and was saved only because the latter retired hurt after a two-set lead.
As far as head-to-head records go, Sinner clearly has the advantage at 5:4, a figure that becomes important because all 5 of those victories have come between 2023 and 2025, including, most recently at the French Open semi-final. The match is scheduled to begin at 7.40 pm (IST), but a post 9 pm start is more realistic.

Taylor Fritz’ Wimbledon campaign began with two 5 set matches against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Gabriel Diallo, respectively, which he followed up with a 4-set victory against Alejandro Davidovich. In the round of 16, he got a walkover against Jordan Thompson and then sent Karen Khachanov home to set up the semi-final bout with Alcaraz.
Alcaraz too had a five set start against Fabio Fognini, He then defeated Oliver Tarvet, Jan-Lennard Struff, Andrey Rublev and Cameron Norrie in 3,4,4 and 3 sets respectively. Sinner’s record this year is interesting; but for his match against Dimitrov, he’s not dropped a set against any other player, having defeated Luca Nardi, Aleksandar Vukic, Pedro Martinez and Ben Shelton. Dimitrov in the Round of 16 was a walkover.
