It’s day 5 of the Wimbledon main draw and the playing field is already down to 32 only, with hot favourites for the title, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, multiple-time winner and last year’s runner up Novak Djokovic and World No.1 Jannik Sinner the top favourites for a shot at the title. The first set of 16 players will be on court on July 4, with matches expected to start at 4.40 pm (IST).
Only 5 seeded players are among these 16 on court today, namely Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Alcaraz had a shaky start beginning with a 5-set first round match, but then got his act together in the second. Fritz has had 2 5-set deciders already, while Khachanov’s second-round encounter went all the way to a fifth. Rublev has not been stretched all the way yet, but both his matches so far had him lose a set, while Fokina, who plays Fritz today, is fresh off of a four-set second-round match.
