Two of the top three seeds in the women’s singles category at Wimbledon crashed out in the first round of the grass court tournament. Coco Gauff, fresh off of her maiden victory at Roland Garros, lost to Dayana Yastremska, while third seed Jessica Pegula was stunned by Elisabetta Cocciaretto, both in straight sets. Pegula has not lost at this stage in any tournament since Roland Garros 2020, while Gauff had a similar exit in 2023 too. In fact, Gauff has not made it past the fourth round in Wimbledon.
Round 2, meanwhile, is being held between July 2 and 3, with 32 players taking the court on each day. The matches are available on Star Sports Network and can be live streamed on JioHotstar and, by extension, on OTTplay Premium as well. The day’s matches are expected to begin around 3.30 pm (IST) with the last scheduled match set to start at 8.20 pm.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is among the frontrunners for the title this year, as is Iga Swiatek. Sabalenka has never made it past the semi-final stage at Wimbledon, but having lost in both the US Open and French Open finals this year, so, she will look to bounce back strong. Wimbledon is a Grand Slam that’s been evading Swiatek also, and this year, she’s not had a great run in the Slams, crashing out at semi-final stage at the US Open and the French Open, with the latter being a tournament she’s won 4 times.
Not to forget defending champion Barbora Krejčíková, who has made it to round 2, but has not made it past that stage at a Slam since her Wimbledon win. This year, the men’s and women’s singles champions will pocket 3 million Euros each. The tournament will end on July 13, with the women’s singles final scheduled for July 12, Saturday.
