In a display of sheer batting dominance that redefined List A cricket, Bihar posted the highest team total in the format's history, amassing a staggering 574 for 6 in their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Plate Group opener against Arunachal Pradesh at the JSCA International Stadium Complex.

Bihar set a new record against AP

The previous world record of 506/2, set by Tamil Nadu against the same opponents in 2022, was obliterated as Bihar's batsmen launched an unrelenting assault over the full 50 overs, striking 38 sixes and maintaining a run rate exceeding 11 runs per over.

Leading the carnage was 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, whose breathtaking 190 off 84 balls (16 fours, 15 sixes) not only anchored the innings but etched his name into the record books multiple times. The left-handed opener raced to a 36-ball century, the second-fastest by an Indian in List A cricket and joint-fourth fastest overall, before surging to 150 in just 59 balls, surpassing AB de Villiers' longstanding mark of 64 balls for the fastest 150 in the format.

Suryavanshi, at 14 years and 272 days, also became the youngest centurion in men's List A history, showcasing maturity and power that belied his age. His dismissal in the 27th over, with Bihar already past 260, did little to stem the flow.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ayush Loharuka picked up the baton seamlessly, blasting 116 off 56 balls (11 fours, 8 sixes) in a whirlwind knock that kept the scoreboard ticking ferociously.

Gani also scored 128 off 40 balls

The finale belonged to captain Sakibul Gani, who unleashed mayhem in the death overs. Coming in late, Gani smashed an unbeaten 128 off just 40 balls (10 fours, 12 sixes), reaching his century in a mere 32 balls, the fastest ever by an Indian in List A cricket, eclipsing Anmolpreet Singh's 35-ball effort from the previous season.

Gani's blitz ensured that Bihar crossed 500 in the 46th over and finished with the unprecedented score of 574/6. Contributions from Piyush Singh (77 off 66) added depth to an innings where every batsman attacked from the outset.

Arunachal Pradesh's bowlers endured a torrid day, with figures reflecting the one-sided contest: no bowler escaped without conceding over 80 runs in their spells.

This performance marks a historic milestone for Bihar cricket, traditionally an underdog in domestic circuits, and underscores the emergence of young talents like Suryavanshi, who has already made waves with IPL exploits for Rajasthan Royals and youth international centuries.

While the match highlighted disparities in domestic cricket, Arunachal Pradesh again conceded a 500-plus total after 2022, it celebrated the sheer joy of aggressive batting. Bihar's total not only sets a new benchmark but raises questions about pitch conditions and competitive balance in Plate Group fixtures.
