The inaugural season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 is all set to begin on Saturday, March 4 at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The season opener will be between Ashleigh Gardner's Gujarat Giants (GG) and Harmanpreet Kaur's Mumbai Indians (MI). 

With the hype around the games, the WPL will also be having a grand opening ceremony. The opening ceremony will feature performances by Bollywood superstars Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani, as well as musician AP Dhillon. Shankar Mahadevan will also sing the official World League anthem.

The tournament will see all five teams — Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz — play four home and four away league games. After the league phase, the table toppers will directly enter the final. Meanwhile, the second and third-placed sides will face each other in the Eliminator for a berth in the final.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) paid 3.4 crores for India batter Smriti Mandhana. Meanwhile, Ashleigh Gardner was the second-most expensive purchase, with GG paying 3.2 crores for her. Deepti Sharma was the most expensive Indian player, joining UP Warriorz for 2.6 crores.
