Popular television actress Sonamoni Saha made her debut in OTT with Abhirup Ghosh’s The Bengal Scam with Rajatava Dutta and Kinjal Nanda. In the show, she is seen as one of the insurance agents who gets into an investigation of a life insurance claim. After her immense popularity in Mohor, the actress is currently working in Star Jalsha’s Ekka Dokka. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, the actress talked about her debut in OTT, her rumoured relationship with co-actor Pratik Sen, and a lot more.

Tell us about your experience in OTT…

I worked in The Bengal Scam soon after Mohor got over and before Ekka Dokka began. It was a very different experience. In television, there is a pressure of daily banking and we work long hours. In OTT, it is a little relaxed. Also, since it was my debut, I got a lot of help from the team. We had several workshops. From our director Abhirup to Kinjal, everybody came forward to make my life easier. Ronyda (Rajatava) helped me a lot during my scenes with him. So, overall, my experience was very nice.

So when is the next web series coming?

(Laughs) I am keen to work in web series from now on. I started as a television actress and of course, I want to explore all other mediums. There was an offer in December but I had to turn it down since I am committed to Ekka Dokka right now. If I wish to work on anything else, my TV team needs to know it well in advance so that they can also plan accordingly.

You were expected to debut in films with Mainak Bhaumik’s Behaya. But that got stalled.

I believe in the adage that everything has its time. Behaya was supposed to start and then got postponed. I am told that it will take place later. Maybe that will be the right time for me to work on a film (laughs).

Tell us about Radhika – your character in Ekka Dokka. Is there any similarity between Radhika and Mohor?

As you know both the characters are written by one person, Leena Gangopadhyay. Leenadi writes strong female characters. Hence, there are similarities between Mohor and Radhika. People could very easily relate to Mohor’s life and crisis, and I am very sure that the same will happen to Radhika.

What kind of feedback are you getting?

Positive. Our progress curve on the TRP list is very promising. There are ups and downs but the general trend is stable and people are liking our show.

Despite your popularity, you stay aloof from social media. Is that a deliberate call?

Yes. See, we all work hard every day for people to watch us for half an hour on TV. if my audience watched me every moment on my social media then why would they wait for that half an hour? This is how I think. That doesn't mean that I'm not on social media. I am not as regular as many of my colleagues maybe.

Tell us about your equation with Pratik. According to your fans, you guys have been dating and you also have a popular hashtag, #Sonatik…

(Laughs) Our fans love us. Our pair of Shankha (Pratik) and Mohor became so popular that everyone wants to see us together forever. So much so that they wanted us to be together even in the future. We enjoy it thoroughly. Both of us take our audiences very seriously. Now we are working on two different serials – I am in Ekkha Dokka and him, in Shaheber Chithi. However, our audience wants Pratik and me to stick together and we take their opinion very seriously. Our wish is to be together (laughs).
