Kuttey trailer launch: Tabu reveals that her character was originally meant to be played by a man

The upcoming Aasmaan Bharadwaj-directorial also stars Arjun Kapoor, Radhika Madan and Naseeruddin Shah

Tabu reveals that her character in Kuttey was written for a man

After Drishyam, Tabu is all set to be seen as a cop once again in the upcoming film, Kuttey. The film is the directorial debut of Vishal Bharadwaj’s son, Aasmaan, and also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Arjun Kapoor, Konkona Sensharma, Kumud Mishra, Radhika Madan and Shardul Bhardwaj. At the film’s trailer launch event in Mumbai, Tabu opened up about the different dimensions of her character. She revealed that her character in the film was initially written for a male actor.

Tabu said that while her character was originally written for a man, the script was altered for her. She said that stepping into the role was both fun and challenging, as her character is full of nuance. When asked what it was like to work with the debutant Aasman, and how different it was to work with him when compared to his father, Tabu said, “ While their thoughts and aesthetics may be similar, their cinema is completely different, and there is no comparison that can be made between the two.”

Tabu further added that shooting the film felt “like home”, since she has seen Aasman being born, named and raised, and remembers him fondly as a child with a wooden camera set on the sets of Maqbool.

Revealing more about her character in the film, Tabu said that the script has a very different style of writing and her character is unlike anything she has played recently.

Tabu was last seen in Drishyam 2 which also starred Ajay Devgn. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film was a blockbuster success. Besides Kuttey, the actress will next be seen in Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa.
