The much-awaited trailer of Mani Ratnam's ambitious project, Ponniyin Selvan is finally out. The action-packed trailer begins with the voiceover of Kamal Haasan where he says that before the dawn of the golden era of the Chola empire, a comet appeared on the sky and that oracles foretold that the comet demanded the sacrifice of the royal blood. The trailer gives a peek of the rivalry gripping the nation and treachery invading the palace. We get a glimpse of all the lead characters of the film- Aditha Karikalan, Arunmozhivarman, Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai. Even as the men wage wars and travel to distant lands, we see Nandini, the princess of Pazhuvoor warning against the union of Aditha and Arunmozhi and having her eyes pierced on the throne. The visuals and art direction are stunning, too, and complementing them is the music by AR Rahman.

The trailer was released late on Tuesday evening and the long delay in the trailer release was a sort of buzzkill for many. As the clock ticked past 11pm, most of them began enquiring about the trailer and that is why it wasn't released yet.

The production house released the song list which comprises the songs Alai Kadal (sung by Antara Nandy with lyrics by Siva Ananth), Devaralan Aattam (sung by Yogi Sekar with lyrics by Ilango Krishnan), Ratsasa Mabane (sung by Shreya Ghoshal, Palakkad Sreeram and Mahesh Vinayakram) and Sol (Rakshita Suresh with lyrics by Krithika Nelson). Two songs Chola Chola and Ponni Nadhi have already been released. Music has been composed by AR Rahman.

The audio and trailer launch was a star-studded gala and in attendance were Mani Ratnam, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, AR Rahman, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Aditi Rao Hydari, Nassar, Dhruv Vikram, Jayaram, Kalidas Jayaram, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Santhosh Narayanan, Shankar, Thotta Tharani and Sreekar Prasad to name a few.

Ponniyin Selvan, which is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel of the same name, is being released in two parts. The shooting for both portions have been wrapped up. The first part Ponniyin Selvan: I  will release worldwide on September 30 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. A number of people have dreamt and attempted to make the adaptation, including Puratchi Thalaivar MGR. Hence, expectations are riding high on the film.
