Players, also starring Damon Wayans Jr., is a winning blend that promises love, laughter, and the game of romance
What happens when Lucifer and Jane the Virgin come together? We get a new film on Netflix, titled Players. Gina Rodrigues and Tom Ellis are teaming up for a new film premiering on Valentine's Day. In the film, Gina plays sportswriter Mack, a New York journalist who is about to make the most improbable catch: her emotions. Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.) and Mack have spent years perfecting their signature hookup acts, which have led their friend group to a tragic demise due to the prevalence of one-night encounters. When she meets Nick (Tom), though, everything changes, and she'll soon face a love-or-good dilemma. Trish Sie helms Players, a romantic comedy based on a screenplay by Whit Anderson about a couple who fall in love in a sporting context.
Mack, his best friend Adam, and their gang have spent years perfecting hookup "plays" that have turned out well. Even if it has resulted in innumerable one-night encounters, there are some serious rules for following their playbook. The most important one is that you can't develop a relationship based on a play. Mack starts to reevaluate the game when she suddenly develops feelings for Nick, a charming war correspondent and her next target. Mack needs to figure out how to go from just scoring to playing for keeps as the boundaries between business, enjoyment, friendship, and romance start to blur.
