What does tragedy do to a family? How do people cope with it? Do the departed look at us and discuss how their absence has altered our lives? There is tender silence in a short film we recommend today, the silence that looms around like a ghost as a family sits across a dining table while having Rogan Josh (an Indian delicacy made out of meat), as they talk about themselves momentarily in the past tense, making you wonder why they all seem like they are beyond hope and the only thing they can now do is watch life unfold in front of them.

There is a stellar Naseeruddin Shah, the newfound internet charmer Bhuvan Arora, and a whole lot of tension between them because for once in his life he chose to be punctual, and that was the wrong day. You will know why. This short film is streaming on Lionsgate Play, and below is the reason why you must drop all other options and watch it right away.

Rogan Josh Plot

Rogan Josh opens with Vijay (Naseeruddin Shah), once the head chef at a lavish hotel, cooking the delicacy and being upset about the fact that the meat got cooked two minutes extra. His wife Fehroza (Avantika Akerkar) dismisses his anger, calling them just two minutes, but he knows the consequences. Enters a guest, a young woman Preeti (Shriswara) who is now the partner of Vijay’s close friend, gynecologist Zakir (Shishir Sharma). They all start eating the star dish as Vijay and Fehroza’s son Varun (Bhuvan Arora) enter the room and begin a conversation that will change the course of this haunting tale of love, loss, and the tragic moment.

Rogan Josh Analysis

It is not every day you come across a piece of content that captures the aftermath of a tragedy so well that you are left numb when it ends. The loneliness that it brings for the people who lose their families and the unfulfilled aspirations and ambitions that the dead die with. Rogan Josh cooks like the recipe, it simmers slowly and continues on until someone turns the flame on high and you begin to see smoke rising and the broth boiling to the maximum. "Something is about to happen" is the constant vibe of the film, and you can sense it all the time.

And something does happen that you are not prepared for. There is so much detailing that writer-director Sanjeev Vig puts into every frame of Rogan Josh that you will be mesmerized by the time you have seen it in every aspect. There is a hint in the clock, the calendar, the dialogue, and even the analog display of the microwave because you are about to hear a tragic story. The buildup is always lurking, never in the center, but still so evident. The idea of looking at a family that is now torn through this lens itself stands out so well.

You must watch Rogan Josh, available on Lionsgate Play, which is available on OTTplay Premium, because there are stellar acting performances, a pitch-perfect twist, and everything in between.
