Alappuzha Gymkhana star Sandeep Pradeep: 'Khalid Rahman had given a fair warning before the shoot...'| Exclusive

Thanks to his endearing guy-next-door roles, Sandeep Pradeep is currently regarded by moviegoers as a rising star in Mollywood. Padakkalam and Alappuzha Gymkhana, two recent Malayalam films, have put the young actor in the spotlight. Sandeep discussed his experience working on the Khalid Rahman-directed movie and his future projects in an exclusive conversation with OTTplay.

What excited you the most about working with Khalid Rahman and in Alappuzha Gymkhana?

Before committing to the production, Khalid had given a fair warning about the physical demands and injuries that came with playing this character. For any aspiring actor, working on a Khalid Rahman movie is an amazing chance, and I was thrilled about it right away. 

The whole group used to work out together in the gym, which was an enjoyable activity. We used to spend the entire day working out, then in the evenings we would practice for boxing. Best of all, we never thought of it as a difficult task! Although I was not really into sports, I did occasionally play football, cricket, or badminton with friends. I therefore found boxing to be an exciting challenge.

What changed as a result of Shifas Ahammed in Alappuzha Gymkhana?

I had joined gym several times, but I was never consistent. However, this movie inspired me to maintain my consistency as a sportsperson and to stay physically fit for a boxer. For Shifas Ahammed, I put a lot of effort into making sure there were no shortcomings that would let the audience down.

Padakkalam is getting a lot of recognition for your performance as Jithin. Was this favourable reception anticipated?

The audience's overwhelmingly positive reception genuinely surprises me. I was aware that Padakkalam would be a unique experience for the audience, and the reaction in theatres was excellent. Since the OTT release, more people are expressing their gratitude, and many have posted constructive criticism on social media. I really value it!

As an actor, Falimy brought you more recognition. In what way would you describe this film?

Since I was a young child, I have aspired to be an actor, and I think the appropriate movie may elevate an artiste to fame. Falimy provided me with this pivotal moment. Since Basil Joseph is a well-liked actor, it goes without saying that I received some love for playing his brother. Additionally, the character was relatable, and the movie was a success. It will hold a special place in my heart forever.

Your upcoming films?

My portions in Kishkindha Kaandam-fame Dinjith Ayyathan's next directorial is almost over. I have been told not to give away too much about the movie, but all I can say is that it uses distinctive storytelling style. I am also in discussions for a few other projects, which will probably be announced soon.
