Rahool Mukherjee’s Dadur Kirti is nothing short of a casting coup. Billed as a comedy thriller, the Hoichoi show features Paran Bandyopadhyay, Anashua Majumdar, Chandreyee Ghosh, Kanchan Mullick, Shantilal Mukherjee, Srijla Guha, Satyam Bhattacharya, Rwitobrata Mukherjee and others. The series is all set to drop on March 29. Before the release, Rahool talked to us about the show.
By his admission, Rahool believes that they packed Dadur Kirti with all the ingredients that Bengali viewers crave. “Nostalgia, Rabindranath Tagore/ Bolpur, ghost, hidden treasure, and a solid love story – nothing can make a Bengali’s heart beat harder than these elements. Dadur Kirti has it all,” he said.

The story has been written years ago. “I started working on it since the time of Kishmish. I was new and this story was rejected 17 times, even by Hoichoi. Finally, I got its approval after Kishmish,” recalled Rahool.
Paran Bandyopadhyay was an obvious choice for Rahool, who developed the story thinking of him. However, selecting the lead actress was sort of an ordeal. Initially, Solanki Roy started working on the project. That did not work out and Srijla made an entry. “I am thrilled working with Srijla. She is hardworking, talented, and the most promising actress of her generation. She is brutally honest and speaks her mind,” said the director.
Meanwhile, getting Paran Bandyopadhyay was also not a cakewalk for the team. “Around the time when we were supposed to start the shooting, Paran Juthu had a bit of a voice problem. I knew Dadur Kirti could not happen without him. We waited. Finally, we were here. I worked with him in almost all of my projects,” said Rahool.
According to the director, they took care of the veteran actor. “We never let him shoot for more than six-seven hours. We tried to make things comfortable for him,” Rahool said.
