Exclusive! The new serial Chini is not a conventional family drama, it is a thriller, says Sahana Dutta

Somraj Maity and Indrani Bhattacharya have teamed up for their new serial Chini on Star Jalsha. The serial that started recently hints at an intricate drama laden with mystery and thrill. Sahana Dutta, the maker, told OTTplay that Chini is not a ‘conventional TV serial’. 

“Chini is not a regular run-of-the-mill. It is a thriller,” Sahana revealed. The story deals with reincarnation. But the maker confirmed that it is more than that. “Reincarnation is just a part of many other elements in the story. Reincarnation is there but not the only thing that we bank on,” she said. Initially, the name was set to Janmantar. Chini is a motherless girl whose father works as a driver in the Roychoudhury family. One day, Chini arrives at their place and becomes amazed at the royal palace. Matriarch Sohag Sen is not pleased with Chini coming to their place. She asks, “Who permitted the driver's daughter to come to this house despite my order otherwise?” She came to know that Chini came here with the permission of her grandson Drone, played by Somraj.

In fact, because Chini does not offer the usual elements of a serial, Sahana claims that she is going through her share of trepidations. “The characters and storyline deviate from the usual serials we make. I don’t know how people are going to respond to it. I have seen runaway hots like Goyenda Ginni or Patal Kumar Ganwala. Let’s see how Chini works,” she said.
