Sree Vishnu is all set for the release of his new film Single, which hits the screens on May 9, 2025. He speaks about his character, the Kannappa controversy, working in big banners, and not yet achieving the success he deserves. Here’s the transcript.

Is there a story behind naming the film #Single?

Yes, there is. Not many have observed this aspect in the title, but there is a connection between the hashtag and the story, which will be revealed at the end of the film. You will only understand this when you watch the film on the big screen.

Your take on the Kannappa troll controversy?

This is not the first time I have imitated someone in my films. In the past, the jokes landed well, and everyone involved had a laugh. But this time, things were different, and people got hurt. The moment I realized that Vishnu and his team were upset, I apologized to them and made things clear. Sometimes, a small joke can turn ugly, and I learned that the hard way.

About Single's inception?

Both Single and my hit film Samajavaragamana came to me at the same time. At that point, my director, Karthik, could not convince the producers with his narration. Since Samajavaragamana was ready, we shot that film first. A few months later, the same script went to Allu Aravind, who called me and asked me to play the lead.

What is Single all about?

Single is about a bachelor who finds love in his office. He tries hard to impress her, and just when he's ready to say "yes," he falls for another girl. Who is that girl, and how my character is stuck between two girls, forms the core of the story. The plot is simple, but the treatment, entertainment quotient, and emotions are mad max and will leave you in splits.

Your films have references to pop culture, Is it a planned decision?

Yes, it is planned. Times have changed, and for my films to connect with the youth, such references, Gen Z slang, and social media terminology are a must. I make sure my film includes all this right from the writing stage. Since my stories are simple, these references help connect with the audience right away, and Single is no exception.

Working with the likes of Allu Aravind?

I share a close association with Aravind garu, who has made great films like Magadheera. From the shoot to how we promote the film, I’ve learned a lot. His decisions regarding the release date were a revelation for me. The amount of research he does ahead of a release is truly inspiring. I am so happy to work under a prestigious banner like Geetha Arts.

You’ve been around for a long time, but proper success eludes you. What's your take on this?

I don't think that's true. Since I am doing films with new directors, people might feel that way. My thought process is simple: when I do a film, my producer should not lose money, and I take care of every aspect of the film. I'm taking it one step at a time and am happy with how my career is shaping up. But when it comes to promotions, I need to step up, and I am improving in that area with each passing day.

Working with the likes of Ivana?

She had a tough time shooting for the film. It was very hard for her to understand my comedy timing and dialogue delivery, which is fast paced in Single. But she has worked hard and has a crazy role. Ivana has a bright future in Telugu cinema.

Future projects?

I have four films in the pipeline, and I will announce them one at a time. I'm getting to work with great talent and have put a lot of faith in Single. My film is a perfect watch for the entire family and will not disappoint you one bit.
