The Raja Saab: Malavika Mohanan reveals the one scene that made her say yes to the Prabhas starrer

Malavika Mohanan plays one of the female leads in Prabhas’ The Raja Saab, which is slated for release on January 9, 2025. Malavika waited for three long years after signing the film and says the wait has been worth it, as she is getting a solid launch in Telugu cinema, and that too with a Prabhas film.

“Initially, when the film’s shoot got delayed and the release was postponed at the last minute in March 2025, I was disappointed. But after seeing the craze and the final output, I am thrilled and eager to see how the film will fare,” says Malavika.

No issues with competition

On the other hand, Malavika is not bothered by the fact that she is one among three heroines. She says each of them has a crucial role, and her character is extra special as it allows her to perform action sequences. 

“I have a crazy intro fight that is designed in a superb manner. The special aspect is that while I’m doing the action, Prabhas is shown in a helpless manner, and there is a twist that this scenes lead to and was the main reason to okay the film in the first place. There are many such scenes featuring me and Prabhas that evoke solid laughs within the setup,” she adds.

Maruthi has directed the film, and there is a lot of pressure on him to deliver. Speaking about the director, Malavika says, “Maruthi is very clear about what he wants and is quite chilled out on the sets. Though we used to be tense, he was always confident and had no issues handling stars like Prabhas, Sanjay Dutt, and Boman Irani.”

When asked what made her sign a Telugu film so late in her career, Malavika says, “I received multiple offers a few years ago, but nothing was that exciting. When The Raja Saab offer came in, I was quite thrilled. The moment I heard about my role, which has good screen time and a solid character, there was no way I could say no. Here we are after three long years, ready for the release, and I am eager to watch the film on the big screen along with the fans.”

Lastly, Malavika adds that it was a great experience working with Prabhas. “He is very shy and takes time to open up, but once he does, he’s a lot of fun to be with. After a long time, he will be seen in a fun avatar, and his fans will go gaga over him especially in the second half, as his other character will shock everyone,” she concludes.

The Raja Saab also stars Riddhi Kumar and Nidhhi Agerwal in key roles. Thaman has composed the music for the film, which will stream on JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium. Stay tuned for more.
