Action entertainer Das Ka Dhamki, Vishwak Sen’s second film as a director after Falaknuma Das, opened to decent reviews and registered impressive figures at the box office in over two days. Nivetha Pethuraj played the female lead in the film produced by Vishwak’s father Karate Raju. He expressed his happiness about the film’s fortunes in a recent media interaction.

Elated with openings:

Das Ka Dhamki has fared beyond our expectations. This is my career-best opener, grossing nearly Rs 9 crore on day one. I hope it gets bigger and better by the day. We have a target to reach and once we go past it, we plan to organise a grand success event.

Pressure handling multiple responsibilities:

No doubt, there was a lot of pressure as a actor, director and a producer. We took a lot of risks to produce and release the film. I handle all these responsibilities out of passion. You may not realise it on the screen and moreover, we put all our money into Das Ka Dhamki and spent ten-times the budget of Falaknuma Das. Making a film isn’t cumbersome but releasing it is a bigger challenge.

On working with Nivetha Pethuraj, composer Leon James:

Nivetha Pethuraj’s character shaped up very well during the writing stage. Any actor who bagged it would’ve received similar acclaim. Nivetha was smart with her script selection. It’s a strong role and she performed very well. Leon James’ contribution was crucial. I have roped him in for another home production as well (third project after Ori Devuda, Das Ka Dhamki).

Giving my own spin to writer Prasanna Bezawada’s script:

I bought the first draft of Das Ka Dhamki from Prasanna. He visualised this as a comedy entertainer but I added a dose of romance, action and thrills to the script and wrote a backstory for the second character. His world is very unique - you’ll see more of him in the sequel. I’m thrilled that a dual role has been received well by audiences after a long time.

On opting for contrasting treatment for both the halves in Das Ka Dhamki

The change in tone of the film was intentional; I viewed it as an advantage over a risk. I was confident that no one could guess the story and put my money into the project. The climax was indeed the icing on the cake. We plan to promote the film well and release the Malayalam, Hindi versions. The Hindi version will release on April 14.

What next?

I have okayed four scripts, I want to wrap up those projects first. There’s a film each with Sithara Entertainments, Ram Talluri and another under my home banner. Gaami is gearing up for a release soon. I’ll direct a film only after I finish them. Falaknuma Das 2, Das Ka Dhamki 2 are definitely on the cards. However, I am not sure which of them will release before. I want to work with newcomers. If Das Ka Dhamki grosses Rs 100 crore, I plan to do a film with debutants.
