Vishwak Sen is undoubtedly one of the most exciting, budding talents of Telugu cinema. Not only is he a good actor, but he’s also proved his mettle not once but twice with the likes of Falaknuma Das and now, Das Ka Dhamki. The latter, which hit theatres yesterday in multiple languages, is off to a fine start at the box office and has put up an impressive opening day figure.

The action entertainer sprung a surprise, particularly in the US, grossing over $150k on the first day, including the collections from the premieres. Meanwhile, back home in the Telugu states too, the Vishwak Sen, Nivetha Pethuraj starrer has put up a respectable figure, grossing nearly Rs 7 crore. On the whole, the film garnered Rs 8.88 crore worldwide.

This is, unsurprisingly, Vishwak’s career best figures and the Ugadi factor worked in his favour too. Most reviews for the film have hailed Vishwak Sen’s performance though few critics pointed out the overdose of twists in the second half. As a director too, the verdict is unanimous that he has showed tremendous improvement from his Falaknuma Das days.

Given the long weekend, Das Ka Dhamki is expected to sustain its momentum, though there may be a drop in collections today. Hyper Aadi, Rangasthalam Mahesh, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Surya and Akshara Gowda played other key roles in the film. The film was produced by Vishwak’s father Karate Raju under Vangmayee Creations and Vishwaksen Cinemas. Leon James scored the music.

The story of Das Ka Dhamki revolves around two lookalikes - Krishna Das and Sanjay Rudra, a waiter and an industrialist. When Sanjay is believed to be dead, Krishna steps into the former’s shoes and salvage the future of his pharmaceutical company. However, over time, Krishna realises he was reduced to a pawn in this game. The film’s sequel will go on floors soon too.
