The Mary Kay Letourneau controversy served as a loose inspiration for the American comedic drama film May December. The story revolves around actress Elizabeth Berry, who visits Savannah, Georgia, for research before taking on a role in an independent film. Elizabeth will play 36-year-old Gracie Atherton-Yoo, who was caught having sex with her son Georgie's 13-year-old Korean-American buddy Joe Yoo at the pet store where she worked in 1992. Elizabeth gradually learns about their lives and establishes a friendly relationship with them. Todd Haynes is the director, and Alex Mechanik and Samy Burch wrote the script and the story. When it made its debut at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, it competed for the Palme d'Or. Charles Melton, Julianne Moore, and Natalie Portman play the key parts. D. W.
