Omkara is a 2006 Indian crime drama film adapted from William Shakespeare’s Othello, written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The story follows the life of Omkara Shukla (Omi) and two of his friends, Ishwar Tyagi (Langada) and keshav Upadhyay (kesu).
Omi is a gang leader and performs various crimes along with his friends for the local politician, bhaisaab. This even gave him the courage to kidnap her lover, Dolly right from her wedding. Continuing his unlawful activities, he leaked an MMS of the rival politician.
This resulted in Bhaisaab being elected for parliament and Omi himself being the candidate for the state elections. Omi chooses Kesu to be his successor despite Langada being senior. Omi thought that kesu stands a better chance at winning as he is from upper – class as well as educated.
This doesn’t go well with Langada and he starts to get jealous of Kesu. This resulted in him planning to take revenge. His revenge plan brought along a lot of problems and misunderstandings with it breaking a lot of relations.
