It's been a decade since Mardaani released the film that brought a fearless cop to the big screen, played terrifically by Rani Mukerji. Pradeep Sarkar, the late filmmaker, directed the first installment in 2014. As the film hits 10 years of its release, Yash Raj Films, the producer, took to their social media pages and shared a video showcasing the iconic scenes from the film.

Along with the video, the makers hinted that the new chapter is just around the corner. The dark reality of child trafficking highlighted in Mardaani

Aditya Chopra produced and Pradeep Sarkar directed the 2014 action thriller Mardaani. Jisshu Sengupta, Tahir Raj Bhasin, and supporting actor Saanand Verma join leading lady Rani Mukerji in this film. As she investigates the abduction of a teenage girl and learns about the dark side of human trafficking in India, the protagonist, Shivani Shivaji Roy, becomes entangled in the story.

Child sex trafficking occurs most frequently in India. Every year, an estimated forty thousand children disappear. Every eight minutes in India, a girl child disappears! The protagonist, Shivani Shivaji Roy, is a senior inspector with the Mumbai Police Department's Crime Branch. She is on a mission to apprehend the gang responsible for the kidnapping and smuggling of a teenage girl named Pyari (Priyanka Sharma) out of the city. Shivani and her family consider Pyari a daughter, but in her relentless pursuit of the girl, she becomes entangled in a web of hedonistic obsession, exploitative fantasies, and a case that will irrevocably alter the course of her life. A courageous police officer and a young, merciless mafia boss engage in a personal, cat-and-mouse battle.

Taking a sharp turn away from Pradeep Sarkar's signature style, this raw and gritty film stars Rani Mukerji in her breakthrough performance.
