1883, the prequel to Yellowstone has set a new record after the Sunday premiere. It has reportedly become the Paramount+ most watched original series, doubling the previous records of the platform’s services. The movie’s biggest debut achievement is over the first 24 hours of release.

The promotional telecast had 4.9 million viewers in total in Live+Same Day, which makes it the biggest new service premiere on cable since 2015. The earlier records were set by AMC’s Into the Badlands, which was followed by juggernaut The Walking Dead.

1883 follows the Dutton clan as they make their way out from Texas to the Montana ranch, where the series is based at, according to the official synopsis. It is a striking retelling of the Western expansion, and a dive-deep into families fleeing poverty seeking shelter in America’s promised land.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, the cast includes Isabel May, Tim McGraw, Sam Elliott, Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thornton and Eric Nelen. The show is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. The executive producers on board include Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, Bob Yari.

The chief programming officer of ViacomCBS Streaming, Tanya Giles was all excited about the show’s success. She said the results of 1883 are truly phenomenal, as quoted by Deadline. She also added that the social response from the audiences was also a tremendous promise for the show.

Meanwhile, Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of ViacomCBS Media Networks, also added that the success of Sheridan’s show is another proof of the unique model, which leverages their linear platforms.
