Kancharla Upendra plays the lead role in1920 Bheemunipatnam

Narasimha Nandi, the maker behind several critically acclaimed, award-winning films like 1940 Lo Oka Gramam, Kamalatho Na Prayanam, has commenced work on a period drama titled 1920 Bheemunipatnam. Kancharla Upendra, who has hogged the limelight for signing five films as a lead actor simultaneously, headlines the drama. Kancharla Achyuta Rao bankrolls the film under SSLS Creations.
1920 Bheemunipatnam is based on several real life incidents leading to the country’s independence in 1947. The film is set to go on floors in December. Meanwhile, the makers have now roped in Ilaiyaraaja as the composer. The fact that it’s a never-seen-before tale motivated us to approach to him, the team says.

“The music will be one of the major highlights. We’ll remember the appreciation Ilaiyaraja gave for the script,” the producer said. This is a film that can bring us global glory and will be on par with Academy-Award winning dramas, the makers share. “It’s ultimately a love story between Sitaram and Sujatha, it’s a great script by Narasimha Nandi,” Kancharla Achyuta Rao exudes optimism.
Kancharla Upendra believes it’s a script that gives actors great scope to perform and is confident about making a memorable, epic film. Director Narasimha Nandi, opening up about the premise, shared that the tale unfolds in the 1920s during the colonial era when Gandhi ideated the Non-Cooperation movement. “The movement inspired many youngsters to participate in the freedom struggle.”
Amidst the freedom struggle, 1920 Bheemunipatnam revolves around two youngsters - Sitaram and Sujatha. “The characters in the film are fictional, but it also has a few real incidents. It’s a privilege to associate with Ilaiyaraaja in my film.” Other details about the cast, crew and shoot will be out shortly. Narasimha Nandi recently began working on another film Prabhutva Saraayi Dukanam, starring Aditi Myakal too.
