Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan’s Rekhachithram has arrived on OTT and is winning praise from a new set of audience who couldn’t watch the Malayalam thriller in theatres. But three more films have released in theatres, including Vadakkan, which the makers claim is the first Malayalam paranormal film. On the other hand, Ousepinte Osiyath and Pariwar take us back to rooted stories about families. From Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram to Kishore’s Vadakkan, here are the four Malayalam films that should be on your weekend watchlist (March 8 - 9, 2025)

Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram was definitely one of the most-awaited Malayalam movies on OTT this month and viewers were in for a pleasant surprise when the thriller dropped on Sony Liv a day in advance. Asif Ali plays a cop who finds a skeleton. As he tries to track down what happened to the victim, he embarks on a quest that takes him back to a Malayalam movie set from 1985. Anaswara Rajan, and Manoj K Jayan are also part of this film, which definitely needs to be there on your watchlist this weekend. Non-Malayalam speakers have the option to watch the film in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

Vadakkan will pull you into a world where folklore and supernatural elements merge to give you a riveting experience. The film, directed by Sajeed A, claims to be the first paranormal film from Malayalam. The supernatural thriller set in Kerala, stars Kishore along with Shruthy Menon and Merin Philip. For the gripping premise alone, Vadakkan deserves to be watched in theatres this weekend.

Ouseppinte Osiyathu narrates a family drama led by Vijayaraghavan, and Dileesh Pothan. Kani Kusruti, who won global acclaim for her performance in All We Imagine As Light, is also a part of this film, along with Zarin Shihab of Aattam fame. Kalabhavan Shajohn, Hemanth Menon and Lenaa are also among the cast.

Nonagenarian patriarch Bhaskara Pillai is on his death bed, but his four sons have an eye on his diamond ring. Directed by Ulsav Rajeev and Fahad Nandu, the film follows the happenings in a dysfunctional family. Jagadish, Indrans, and Prasanth Alexander form the lead cast of the film.
