The 69th National Film Awards turned out to be an epic disappointment for Tamil cinema. A few films that many thought would bring recognition to Kollywood were not acknowledged. However, Manikandan's acclaimed movie Kadaisi Vivasayi brought much-needed respite to the industry.

The late Nallandi, who played the lead role in the film, won special mention and the heart-warming drama was adjudged as the Best Tamil Film. Shreya Ghoshal won the Best Female Playback Singer award for the song Maayava Thooyava from Parthiban's Iravin Nizhal.

B Lenin's Sirpigalin Sirpangal won the Best Educational Film under the Non-Feature Films category while music director Srikanth Deva won a Special Mention for his work in the short film Karuvarai. Barring these, Kollywood's talent in 2021 was ignored, and movie buffs expressed their disappointment on social media.

Kadaisi Vivasayi, which was released last year, won a unanimous positive response from critics and moviegoers. It dealt with a farmer's plight; fine performances and neat technical aspects are highlights of the movie which raised a few pertinent questions.

Iravin Nizhal was hailed as a one-of-its-kind experiment even before it hit the screens a year ago. It garnered a few popular awards and was screened at various international film festivals. The movie was touted as the world's first single-shot film with a non-linear storyline.

Parthiban has now taken to Twitter to congratulate Shreya Ghoshal on the honour she has achieved and thanked AR Rahman, the movie's composer, for offering a beautiful song for the singer. He also expressed gratitude towards the entire cast and crew of Iravin Nizhal.
