71st National Film Awards: GV Prakash had won his first National Film Award for his work in the Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru

Tamil and Telugu cinema struck rich at the 71stNational Film Awards for 2023. While Parking was the big winner, composer GV Prakash took home his second Best Music Director Award for his work in the Dhanush-starrer, Vaathi. His first win came at the 68th National Film Awards, when he won for the Suriya-led Soorarai Pottru and shared the award with S Thaman who got it for Ala Vaikunthapurramalo.
GV Prakash issued an official statement following his win, “Really overwhelmed with joy and I would like to thank God and nature for supporting me on this whole thing. I would like to thank the jury, the selectors, the committee, the ministry, and everyone who has been a part of this selection.”
The composer had a special word of gratitude for Vaathi’s leading man Dhanush, who was instrumental in getting him onboard the film. He also thanked director Venky Atluri, producers Naga Vamsi and Trivikram Srinivas, as well as the musicians and technicians who collaborated with him on the album of Vaathi.
GV Prakash becomes the third Tamil composer after Ilaiyaraaja (Sindhu Bhairavi, Tharai Thappattaiand) and AR Rahman (Roja, Minsara Kanavu, Kannathil Muthamittal, Ponniyin Selvan-1) to win it more than once. Ilaiyaraaja has three wins in all, but one is for a Telugu film, while Rahman has won for Hindi also.
