A R Rahman the name n eeds absolutely no introduction at all. Music and perfection have always formed his middle name. There are umpteen films which stand as testimonies to his flawless music. Ditto for the live concerts where he performs. But, the one which was conducted recently (which was titled as ‘Marakkuma Nenjam’) in Chennai, was in the news for the wrong reasons. As always, there were many fans of the music maestro who had gathered to see their favourite musician perform.
But, the poor management by the organisers had left many fans upset and enraged. Because of the overcrowding, many were not able to see the concert, despite having valid tickets. Added to that, were the unexpected stampede, which resulted in people being hurt, women facing molestation and children were also stranded without their parents.
Music Maestro promises QUICK action
A R Rahman has now taken to social media and has apologised for the untoward incident. The musician wrote, “Dearest Chennai Makkale, those of you who purchased tickets and weren’t able to enter owing to unfortunate circumstances, please do share a copy of your ticket purchase to arr4chennai@btos.in along with your grievances. Our team will respond asap. @BToSproductions. @actcevents”
A R Rahman wasnt aware of the outside chaos
In an interview to The Hindu, A R Rahman said that it was a tsunami of people and love that they were unable to handle. He added that, as a composer, his job was to give a terrific show, and that he thought everything else would be taken care of. He also clarified that, he was only thinking about it should not rain and was happily performing inside, without having any idea of what was happening outside. He also added that even though their intentions were good, he thought that the response was beyond their expectations. The musician also assured that they were collecting the data (of those who had purchased tickets for the concert) and that they will surprise fans with something soon!
Musician not wanting to point fingers at anyone
He also explained his present state of mind by saying that at the present moment, they were just terribly disturbed and that safety was the primary issue, especially because there were women and kids. A R Rahman added in the interview that, he did not want to point fingers at anyone, but they had to realise that the city was expanding, and the passion to consume music and art was also expanding.
