While it’s no secret that Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran has gone whole nine yards and then some for his role as a goat-herder in Blessy’s Aadujeevitham, the superstar in an earlier interview with OTTplay had told us that if given a choice he wouldn’t do it again

Though the actor has been coy about the sacrifices – apart from how the delay in the shoot had also affected his other projects, in a recent interview, the movie’s make-up artist Ranjith Ambady opened up about what Prithviraj had to do to essay the character.

‘Prithviraj Sukumaran starved himself for Aadujeevitham’

Ranjith said that the Prithviraj would starve himself, especially for the portions that required him at his leanest, and wouldn’t eat, even when the others had food at the tent when they were stuck in Jordan during the worldwide pandemic lockdown.

This also had a huge impact on the actor’s health. “There were times when he had collapsed while filming,” said Ranjith. The make-up artiste, who had incidentally won his first Kerala State Film Award for Blessy’s directorial debut Kaazhcha, said that it was difficult for anyone to walk in the desert under the sweltering sun and so, this would have naturally taken a toll on Prithviraj while shooting the film when he had to walk fast, with his frail body.

Prithviraj, who recently completed the recce for the UK portions of his directorial L2: Empuraan, reacted to Ranjith’s comments on social media. Sharing the video on his Insta story, the actor wrote, “Will probably be the greatest filmmaking memory I will ever have! And Ranjith Ambady is a genius.”

Incidentally, the National Award-winning make-up artist’s talent has been noted, with him being roped in for Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, which has Kamal Haasan, Dulquer Salmaan, Jayam Ravi and Trisha Krishnan as part of the cast.
