Malayalam director Vipin Das’ Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey has already gone on to win hearts of women across India, and it’s no wonder that Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was the first in queue to buy its Hindi remake rights. The film’s producers had met with the actor-director in Mumbai and shared details of what transpired during the discussions, in a recent interview.
Aamir, who was impressed with the film as well as its performances, had also called up Basil Joseph, who played the lead along with Darshana Rajendran, to praise their acting in the film. Rumours were rife that Aamir would star in the remake, essaying Basil’s part of a misogynist husband who meets his match in his wife after she learns karate and ‘kicks’ her way out of the toxic relationship.
Aamir Khan to play Basil Joseph’s role in Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey Hindi remake?
The film’s producers – Lakshmi Warrier and Ganesh Menon – said that while Aamir’s team is in the final stages of acquiring the remake rights of the movie, he will not be acting in the film. Aamir will be on board only as a producer, and a bunch of relatively young actors will be starring in the film, they say.
The producers also explained that the film will have changes in the plot, with the movie being set in the hinterland of Uttar Pradesh. Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, which is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, had Kollam as its main location.
Incidentally, the makers also discussed in length about the meeting with Aamir in Mumbai, where he had discussed his work as well as films in South for over six hours.
Basil Joseph to venture to Bollywood?
Incidentally, Basil, who had previously helmed Minnal Murali, is also expected to make his Bollywood debut next year, with a film starring Ranveer Singh. Though it has been speculated to be a superhero film, neither the filmmaker nor the actor has confirmed nor denied that they are working on such a project.
