Aarambham: Khushbu's daughter Avantika Sundar set to make her Malayalam debut; Deets here

The daughter of famed South Indian actor Khushbu and Tamil filmmaker Sundar C, Avantika Sundar, is going to make her Malayalam film debut. The pooja ceremony for the Malayalam film Aarambham, which translates to "a start," took place in Chavakkad, in the Thrissur district of Kerala today (February 13). 

What are the details of Malayalam film Aarambham?

Under the direction of Sujesh Annie Eapen, the project features an ensemble cast. The movie will be shown in theatres in both Tamil and Malayalam. In the movie, Avantika portrays Arathi, the main character. Notable actors Saritha, Althaf Salim, Indrans, Vijayaraghavan, Krishna Sankar, and Kalabhavan Shajohn are in the lead cast with her. 

The supporting cast includes Sunil Sugatha, Viji Venkatesh, Noby Marcos, Rajesh Sharma, Ramesh Kottayam, Soumya Bhagyam Pillai, Spadikam George, Senthil Krishna, Shins, Thazhava Sahadevan, Inni Raja, Shiny Sara, Kumar Sethu, Shobi Thilakan, Sajimon, and Lishoy. According to sources, the filming will take place in various locations in Kollengode, Chavakkad, and Kunnamkulam. The film's screenplay and dialogue were written by Joselet Joseph and Ajoy Thampi, while Gopi Sundar will compose the soundtrack. Ajayan Vincent is the cinematographer of Aarambham.

Which are other upcoming Malayalam films in 2026?

It's interesting to note that Vismaya, Mohanlal's daughter, is also making her acting debut this year with Thudakkam, which also refers to beginning in Malayalam. In the latest poster, Ashish Antony's character sits behind Vismaya, who is seated quietly facing the camera from a bus window seat. The movie, which appears to be a thriller, will be presented on the big screen in Onam 2026, according to the makers.

Other upcoming Malayalam films in the first half of 2026 include Naslen's Mollywood Times, Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas' Athiradi and Antony Varghese Pepe's Kattalan. Mohanlal's highly anticipated projects, Drishyam 3 and Mammootty-starrer Patriot will also hit the big screen soon in April. This year's Onam releases include Dulquer Salmaan's I' M Game and Prithviraj Sukumaran's Khalifa.
