This month Aashram came back and viewers were treated to another season of Baba Nirala’s dangerous games. While Bobby Deol starred as the vicious Baba, Rajeev Siddartha essayed the role of Akki, a journalist who takes it upon himself to bring Baba’s atrocities to light. Siddhartha recently opened up about his character arc in the show’s new season and working with director Prakash Jha.
In a statement, Siddhartha talked about his character, whom he referred to as a ‘selfless’ person who stands up for people who are exploited and cant speak for themselves. He realises how Nirala exploits people at his ashram, especially women, and conducts an investigation to expose the Baba. This leads to Akki becoming close to Pammi, who herself suffered ordeals at Nirala’s hands.
Regarding Akki and Pammi’s dynamic this season, Siddhartha talks about how the duo are on the run in the latest season. The actor talked about how ‘centred’ and ‘perspectival’ his character was, compared to Pammi’s more impulsive nature. As a result Akki acted as the ‘perfect sounding board’ to Pammi. Siddhartha also talked about how the duo’s scenes this season involved a lot of ‘stillness and pauses’, and said that his nuanced character continued to grow.
On working with Prakash Jha, the actor said that it was a ‘fantastic’ experience and said he considered himself lucky to be under the director’s guidance for all three seasons of the show. Siddhartha talked about how ‘secure’ and ‘confident’ the director was about his craft, which made everything else go smoothly. “There are a lot of admirable qualities in him- the way he handles projects on a huge scale, and how he provides a right atmosphere for actors to deliver honestly in the scenes”, said the actor.
Aashram 3 is available for streaming on MX Player.
