Malayalam cinema has been going through its golden phase, especially at the box office. 2024 has been a remarkable year for the much-loved industry so far, with back-to-back releases of excellent films, that also performed exceptionally well at the box office. As you may know, the Malayalam film industry is now witnessing the glorious box office runs of four recent films - Aadujeevitham, Aavesham, Varshangalkku Shesham, and Jai Ganesh.

Interestingly, Malayalam cinema registered its biggest single-day collection in the history of the Kerala box office, on Vishu (April 14, 2024). The movies, currently in theatres, together earned over Rs. 10.50 crore from Kerala on April 14, Sunday. However, the single-day record set by Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo at the Kerala box office, still remains untouched.

The four recently released Malayalam films which are running successfully at the theatres - Aadujeevitham, Aavesham, Varshangalkku Shesham, and Jai Ganesh – together made a single-day collection of around Rs. 10.50 crore on Apri 14, 2024, Vishu day. This is the biggest single-day collection at the Kerala box office registered by Malayalam films so far. The ongoing box office trends suggest that this is indeed the best phase for the industry, yet.

As expected, the overwhelmingly positive reviews received by all four films, and the excellent audience rush on Vishu, have impacted the collections. Also, the PVR group’s decision to lift the ban on Malayalam films, thanks to the timely involvement of FEFKA, made things even better for the films at the Kerala box office. All four films have experienced a significant jump in their bookings and box office collections after the PVR shows opened.

But even the total box office collection of the four acclaimed Malayalam films was not enough to break the single-day collection record set by Thalapathy Vijay’s blockbuster movie, Leo. The single-day collection of Rs. 12.5 crore, which is set by the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial at the Kerala box office, remains untouched. While considering the current trends, the Malayalam films are not far away from breaking this single-day collection record set by a Tamil movie at the Kerala box office.
