Abhignya Vuthaluru, the YouTuber-turned-actress, is ready with her new series Viraatapalem – PC Meena Reporting, which is all set to stream on Zee5 (OTTplay Premium) from June 27, 2025. She speaks to us about bagging such a big offer, playing a cop, mouthing lengthy monologues, and future projects. Here is the transcript.
One of the team members from Zee5 approached me with the offer. The moment I heard the script, I felt that such a character, at such a young age in my career, would never come my way. The entire show is focused on me and gave me scope to prove my talent, and there was no chance that I would let go of such an opportunity—I grabbed the show with both hands.
I play a police constable, Meena, who is posted in a small village where married women keep getting killed under mysterious circumstances on their wedding night. How a young cop takes a bold decision to get married to solve the case is the basic crux of my character. Meena is a very bold, focused, and daring person in real life.
Ever since I got the script, I’ve been thinking about how I would play Meena in different ways. I even created a backstory for Meena in my head and performed the character to the best of my capabilities. I should thank my director, Krisha, for giving me a free hand to enact in my own way without disturbing the essence of the character.
By the looks of it, one feels that Viraatapalem – PC Meena Reporting is a crime thriller, but I call it a mystery thriller. The reasons behind this will be known once the show starts streaming on June 27, 2025. The series has folklore, suspense, and family drama at its peak.
Right from the word go, Viraatapalem – PC Meena Reporting moves at a fast pace. So, I had to carry the mood of the character right till the end. Also, I had to mouth long monologues, which was quite different. This was the first time I was acting in front of a crowd, and it took time for me to deliver my monologues as I was also sick.
I was raised in Delhi and had exposure to a wide range of cinema. Growing up, Trisha was my favourite actress, and seeing her, I always wanted to be an actor. I became a dancer, then did YouTube, and transformed myself into a full-time actress. Viraatapalem – PC Meena Reporting is a massive opportunity for me to prove my talent, and I am so looking forward to seeing the reaction of the audience.
As of now, I am shooting for my upcoming web series, Melbourne Panchayati, for ETV Win. It is a fun masala series that is targeted at the youth. My dream is to work in a period drama that has a time travel concept. I hope I get to do such roles shortly.
