Debutante filmmaker Raja Ramamurthy's Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu, starring Akshara Haasan in lead role, was screened in many film festivals, including Atlanta Indian Film Festival 2021, Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival and Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
The first look of the project was launched by Vijay Sethupathi in 2020 and Kamal Haasan unveiled its trailer a few months later. The makers have now announced that the movie will release directly on Amazon Prime Video on March 25. They have also come up with another trailer, the duration of which is around two-minutes.
It begins with Pavithra (Akshara Haasan), a teenage girl, hesitating to purchase a sanitary pad from a supermarket. She is accompanied by a friend who has been asking her not to indulge in something which the former has decided to do. However, the trailer doesn't divulge details into what Pavithra is up to.
Usha Uthup, Malgudi Subha, George Maryan, Shalini Vijayakumar and Anjana Jayaprakash among others essay crucial characters in the project which is billed as a coming-of-age dramedy which revolves around the life of a teenage girl who goes through complex emotions and confusion.
Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu also takes on the conservative notion of how young girls should behave in society. Though a naïve girl, Pavithra attempts to do something bold in her life, but her friends and family members discourage her from it by trying to make her understand that she will be judged and looked down upon by people around her.
What is Pavithra up to? Why are her friends concerned about her decision to do something out-of-the-box? Akshara was last seen in Kadaram Kondan (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) and she has action flick Agni Siragugal in her kitty. She made her OTT debut in 2019 with Zee5 original film Fingertip.
