Actor-comedian Robo Shankar, who began his career as stand-up comic, began to play supporting roles in Tamil films

Robo Shankar, comedian and actor, who worked in the Tamil film industry, passed away during the late hours of Thursday. While his demise comes as a shocking news, Robo Shankar had been a household name in the Tamil entertainment sphere, given he had participated in television shows, and entered cinema to work, sharing screen space with stars. Robo Shankar’s mortal remains have been kept at his residence in Chennai, where the Tamil film fraternity paid their last respects.

Robo Shankar died at the age of 46. As per hospital statement, he was undergoing treatment since September 16 when he was admitted in a critical condition with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multi organ dysfunction secondary to a complex abdominal condition. He was under critical care unit. However, his health declined and subsequently passed away on Thursday, at 9.05 pm.
Robo Shankar entered the industry by participating in stand-up comedy show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru? After appearing in various segments in other shows of the channel, he had gone on to appear in small roles in films. Robo Shankar had appeared in known Tamil films like Singapore Saloon, Iravin Nizhal, Hero, and others.
Actors and other prominent personalities condoled Robo Shankar's death on social media, while others like Dhanush visited his family. Actor Karthi wrote, "It aches to see how destructive choices over time can erode health. A great talent gone too soon. My deepest condolences to his family and fans."
Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar recalled that she spoke to him only on Sunday and that he is no more today. "Just too sudden .. I just can’t believe it.. prayers to the family.. he made so many people laugh..may he rest in peace.."
Robo Shankar is survived by his wife Priyanka Shankar and daughter Indraja Shanka who had appeared in Vijay's Bigil.
