Actor Jiiva recalls aftermath of Siva Manasula Sakthi release: 'My parents did not like the dialogues, scolded me for doing…' | EXCLUSIVE

Siva Manasula Sakthi is a 2009 Tamil film starring Jiiva and Anuya Bhagwat in the lead roles. Even though it may have been over 16 years since its release, many times the film’s re-release has been met with tremendous applause and reception.

Recently, Jiiva, who is expecting the release of fantasy horror film Aghathiyaa, opened up about how Siva Manasula Sakthi has been celebrated but also got his fair share of criticism from his own family members.

Jiiva: think it was more of a cultural shock

Jiiva, who was last seen in Black, is gearing up for the release of Aghathiyaa. The film is slated for release on February 28. In an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, actor Jiiva addressed his cult classic film Siva Manasula Sakthi, and how at the time of its making and release, he earned the wrath of his own family for doing the film.

Jiiva said, “It is a slice-of-life film. At the time of its release, my mother’s friends scolded me for doing this film that showed first night even before marriage. They did not like the dialogues, and I had to convince them that it was just a film. Many had also asked their children not to mingle with me. Even some of my family members scolded me for the amount of smoking and drinking I had done onscreen for the film. I think it was more of a cultural shock when Siva Manasula Sakthi came out. My father even told my mother about the drinking culture shown in the film, because he has bankrolled by family films. Every time I entered the house, I was looked down upon like an outcast, but I did not mind much at that time.”

Siva Manasula Sakthi was written and directed by M Rajesh. The romantic comedy-drama also featured Santhanam, Urvashi, Sathyan and others. It revolves around a radio jockey and a courier delivery man, and how romance blooms between them. With Yuvan Shankar Raja scoring the music, Siva Manasula Sakthi went on to become a cult classic and commercial blockbuster.
