With Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Jonathan Pine for the show's second season, which has been in production since October of last year, Indian viewers of the high-stakes spy drama have been equally interested in what lies ahead for the desi remake of The Night Manager. Recent news indicates that there would be a second installment in the Indian version starring Aditya Roy Kapur.
Initiating discussions to renew The Night Manager: India for a second season has already begun, according to sources close to JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium) informing Mid Day. Creators Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghose are currently preparing the plot for what will hopefully be a lengthy and fruitful run.
A source told the tabloid that the writing process is expected to kick off by the year-end. The British have given the original script to the Indian crew, who are currently focusing on changing the storyline and developing the protagonist's journey.
According to reports, Season 2 would delve into an entirely new clandestine mission, while Season 1 ended with Kapur's Shaan Sengupta successfully entering the empire of arms dealer Shelly Rungta (Anil Kapoor). It has been determined through platform internal conversations that the story will pick up eight years after the events of the previous part. Taking on a new global threat, Kapur's Shaan and Tillotama Shome's Lipika Saikia Rao, an R&AW agent, will rejoin.
Kapur, who made his OTT debut in the critically acclaimed Indian adaptation, claimed he, too, is in the dark regarding the upcoming season's situation, despite his best efforts to find out.
The actor told the tabloid, "We’ll have to ask the powers that be! Tom Hiddleston is working on his next season, so the energy is there. There is an intention to do another season, but everyone wants the writing to be just right before they move ahead."
Following the first season's International Emmy-nominated success and the worldwide excitement surrounding the return of the British original, fans can anticipate that momentum will intensify in the months to come. The writers are putting a premium on quality during the writing phase before giving the go-ahead for production, so that's where the attention is right now.
