When Friday Film House decided to venture into Kannada cinema, it did so in association with KRG Studios, one of the leading distribution houses in the industry, which has also made baby steps in movie production as well. The film, Abbabba, directed by KM Chaitanya, was the remake of an earlier Friday Film House production, Adi Kapyare Kootamani. It was distributed by KRG Studios in Karnataka.

Abbabba had a delayed theatrical outing, during which time, the two banners collaborated on the release of another film. KRG Studios facilitated the release of Valatty, after acquiring the worldwide distribution rights of the film. And now, these two banners are taking their professional relationship one step ahead.

Earlier today, Karthik Gowda, co-founder of KRG Studios and Friday Film House’s Vijay Babu announced that they would be collaborating on the production of 3 content-rich films (to start with) across genres, the first of which is a film called Padakkalam, which will be directed by Manu Swaraj.

Talking about their collaboration, Vijay Babu spoke about the fact that there are content-rich Malayalam films that often fail to reach their target audience in the absence of a good distribution system and that having the support of a banner like KRG Studios, which releases 30-35 films a year across languages in Karnataka, could make a difference.

The idea, he said, is to bring good pan-Indian cinema to Kerala, as well as Malayalam films to different parts of the country through KRG Studios. The collaboration will be creative and commercial, he added.

Padakkalam, meanwhile, is a fun-fantasy, youth-oriented film, which will mark the directorial debut of Manu Swaraj, who has been an assistant director for years, including on films like Kunjiramayanam and Minnal Murali, among others. While the cast has not been divulged, Vijay assures that it will be a multi-starrer.
