Director Lokesh Kanagaraj stepped into the production realm with the film Fight Club under his newly launched production house, G Squad. The movie, starring Vijay Kumar in the lead, made its streaming debut on Disney+Hotstar earlier this week . While promoting the movie, Lokesh opened up about how this movie ended up becoming his maiden production venture.

Lokesh's decision to associate with First Club as a producer raised eyebrows, and many questioned why he chose to take on an existing project rather than creating one from scratch.

Why Fight Club? Lokesh Kanagaraj

Responding to the question, Lokesh revealed, "Obviously for Vijay. And I also liked the movie's craft very much. The entire team had technically handled the movie very well."

Joining the project at its final stages, Lokesh clarified, "I was the last guy to join the team. They came to me after finishing the complete shoot of the movie. I only helped them to release it."

Fight Club, with a production timeline spanning nearly two years, faced delays and uncertainties. Originally produced under the banner Reel Good Films in 2021, the film struggled to find its way to theatres. Lokesh, however, intervened by offering both influence and financial support through G Squad, rescuing the film and enabling a wide release.

As Lokesh took over the production reins, Fight Club emerged from the shadows, benefiting from his promotional efforts. Lokesh engaged in a series of interviews, creating awareness and anticipation for the film ahead of its release in December last year.

However, despite Lokesh's best efforts Fight Club failed to strike a chord with an audience in theatres. The question now lingers: will it discover its viewership on the streaming platform?

Fight Club marked the directorial debut of Abbas A Rahmath. It's noteworthy that Lokesh became friends with Rahmath at a time when he was struggling to find a foothold in the Tamil film industry.

The film also stars Monisha Mohan Menen, Kartheekeyan Santhanam, Avinash Raghudevan, Shankar Thas and Saravana Vel.
