Malayalam superstar Mammootty's winning streak at the box office continues with his latest movie, Bramayugam . The film debuted in cinemas last week, earning glowing reviews along with commercial success from audiences worldwide.

Bramayugam eyes Rs 50 crore milestone

According to reports, by the end of the first week, the global collection of Bramayugam is pegged at Rs 40 crore. The film has earned close to Rs 15 crore from its ticket sales in Kerala alone. Current trends suggest that Bramayugam is estimated to cross the Rs 50 crore mark at the global box office against its modest budget of less than Rs 30 crore.

Bramayugam will become the second Malayalam film to breach this box office benchmark, following Premalu. Starring Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles, this humble Malayalam film has become the biggest rom-com hit of this season.

The Kerala box office story

While the box office business appears to be grappling with a lack of exciting content elsewhere in the country, the latest Malayalam films are keeping cinemas alive. Premalu, directed by Girish A. D, became the first big hit of 2024 and took many by surprise.

Before its release, there weren't high expectations for the movie. However, after its release, the film gained momentum at the box office, drawing Malayalee audiences to cinemas worldwide. It continues to keep the box office registers ringing despite new releases.

Surprisingly, Bramayugam is also holding its ground against Premalu at the Kerala box office. In its second week, the horror thriller has managed to retain more than 200 screens in Kerala. With this week's release, Manjummel Boys also drawing good reviews from the audiences, it remains to be seen how Bramayugam will perform in the coming days.

Bramayugam is written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan. Set against the backdrop of 18th-century Kerala, the film employs a minimalist approach in narrating a story of lies, deceit, and power abuse. The film also stars Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan.
