Agent is a disaster on OTT: Akhil Akkineni gets trolled brutally yet again

Agent was Akhil Akkineni's biggest film to date, staying in production for over two years. The highly anticipated action drama, directed by Surender Reddy, finally hit theatres on April 28, 2023, but ended up as one of the biggest flops in Telugu cinema history.

Produced by Anil Sunkara, the film suffered massive financial losses, leaving the producer inactive in Tollywood for months. Initially, Agent was supposed to premiere on SonyLIV just a month after its theatrical release, but financial disputes between the makers and the platform caused significant delays. After nearly two years, the film finally began streaming on March 14, 2025.

Despite the delayed OTT release sparking some curiosity among audiences who missed it in theaters, Agent has turned out to be a disaster on streaming as well. Viewers took to social media to troll the film, particularly its over-the-top action sequences. One viral clip posted online mocked a stunt scene, questioning how such exaggerated action made it into the final cut.

Agent ended in massive losses

Director Surender Reddy, known for his stylish filmmaking and the success of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, was expected to present Akhil in a solid action-packed role. The presence of legendary Malayalam actor Mammootty in Agent further elevated the initial hype around the film. However, none of these factors helped Agent find success.

Since its theatrical failure, Akhil has not released another film, and the renewed criticism on social media has only brought Agent back into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
