Telugu star Vijay Deverakonda is quite confident about his upcoming movie, Family Star , striking a chord with mass audiences. However, unlike before, he has become more restrained in expressing his confidence in his movies before the actual box office results.

As the saying goes, once bitten, twice shy, Vijay Deverakonda has become more careful about how he promotes his movies following the Liger fiasco. He was so confident about the success of the movie, before its release, that he declared, "I will only start counting box office numbers after Rs 200 crore."

However, Liger became his biggest career upset as it bombed both critically and commercially. While he has learned a few lessons from that failure, Deverakonda noted that his confidence remains intact.

"There is no change in my attitude. I have remained the same. The only difference is I decided to refrain from talking about the results of a film upfront for at least three more movies. That's the punishment I gave myself," he said during a press interaction in Hyderabad on Monday.

Vijay Deverakonda's new strategy

He also explained his "no debut director from now" comments. He noted that he wants to steer clear of this segment of filmmakers to create more space for newcomers. "Even if I book all the new directors, who will give a chance to new actors? Let the new directors work with new actors, prove themselves to producers, and gain experience," he explained.

He noted that he's not bothered with a director's past records, whether his first film was a hit or flop. However, he noted that by watching the film he will gain more insight into the filmmaker than he would just by reading scripts.

"We ask for a synopsis, narration, storyboard, and music to gather information about a director's vision for a film. When a debut director makes a film, it will give me more information about his talents. Because the budget of my movies is not small. We did Pelli Choopulu at Rs 60 lakh. But now, the budgets have grown huge and I have responsibilities towards producers and buyers. So I have to make sure my basics are right first," he added.

Family Star is written and directed by Parasuram Petla. The film is the director's second collaboration with Vijay Deverakonda after the 2018 hit Geetha Govindam. The film stars Mrunal Thakur as the female lead and is due in cinemas on April 5.
