Ahead of Laila's OTT release, here's how much Vishwak Sen's film made in theaters

Laila, Vishwak Sen’s latest film, turned out to be a massive box-office failure. Released on February 14, 2025, the film was pulled from theaters after just its first weekend due to poor occupancy. We, at OTTplay, had previously reported that the makers were in discussions with various streaming platforms to finalize the OTT deal, and as expected, the film was sold to Aha and Amazon Prime Video for a whopping price.

As per the latest update, Laila will be available for streaming on Aha from March 7, 2025. Now, let's take a look at how much the Vishwak Sen starrer made during its theatrical run.

According to the latest trade reports, Laila managed to collect only Rs 3.2 crore net in India. The overseas collections were even worse, bringing in just Rs 50 lakh, making the film’s worldwide earnings less than Rs 4 crore. This marks Laila as Vishwak Sen’s biggest box office failure to date.

Before its release, the film was heavily promoted, especially in Telangana, where it saw a decent opening. However, from the second show onwards, the occupancy dropped drastically due to negative word of mouth.

Laila ended as a massive flop at the box office

Directed by Ram Narayan, Laila features Vishwak Sen in a never-seen-before avatar—disguised as a woman. The story follows a man who, in a desperate attempt to escape a moneylender in Hyderabad’s Old City, takes on a female disguise, leading to a series of comedic and chaotic events.

Ahead of the film’s release, Vishwak Sen made bold claims, stating that if the film failed, he would change his name. These remarks later became troll material on social media following the film’s disastrous performance. Acknowledging the failure, Vishwak apologized to his fans and promised to make a strong comeback.

Currently, he is busy with new projects and is maintaining a low profile. Now, all eyes are on Laila’s OTT release to see if it finds a new audience when it starts streaming on Aha on March 7, 2025.
