Kollywood fans are eagerly looking forward to the most-anticipated Pongal box office clash set to happen between Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu in January 2023. Though makers of both the projects are yet to announce their release dates, it looks like they are likely to arrive on the same day.

The first single from Varisu, Ranjithamey, was unveiled recently, leaving Vijay fans elated while team Thunivu is expected to release their first single, Chilla Chilla, any time soon. Varisu was the first to announce release for Pongal, but Thunivu, on the other hand, made an official announcement on the festival release only a few weeks ago.

However, it looks like the Ajith-starrer is having an upper hand with regard to theatre agreement. Some of the leading exhibitors in Tamil Nadu have informed that they have signed their deal with the makers of the movie. Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies, which has been bagging theatrical rights of prominent films this year, had acquired Thunivu a few months ago.

They are ensuring that the movie gets a good number of releases in the state. Though Udhay had recently confirmed that the two big ticket flicks will have more or less the same number of screens, going by the current trend, Thunivu is likely to bag more screens.

Seven Screen Studio, which bankrolled Vijay's Master, has bagged theatrical rights of Varisu. Fans of Vijay are expecting an update from them in terms of signing agreements with exhibitors in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, there is speculation doing the rounds that one of them might postpone its release to January 26, though it's too early to say. H Vinoth has helmed Thunivu, a heist thriller, while Vamshi Paidipally has directed Varisu.
